The City of Eagle announced the development of the Eagle Regional Sports Park, a state-of-the-art sports and recreation facility located off Highway 16, at Equest Lane. Spanning approximately 139.11 acres, this multi-use park is set to become a vibrant hub for athletic activities and outdoor leisure.
Concept Design and Facilities
With a focus on versatility, the concept design of the Eagle Regional Sports Park offers a wide range of amenities to cater to various sports and recreation interests. The park will boast a total of 80 acres dedicated to the sports/ballfield complex. Featured among the facilities will be baseball fields, green open spaces for soccer, football, and rugby, pickleball courts, tennis courts, bleachers, concession stands, a playground, and a tournament house for pre-tournament check-ins and post-ceremony celebrations.
Moreover, one of the park’s highlights will be its trailhead access to the sprawling 2200 BLM acres situated east of the site. This feature ensures seamless connectivity with the surrounding natural beauty, providing opportunities for biking, hiking, and equestrian activities.
Project Updates
The development of the Eagle Regional Sports Park is progressing steadily. On October 6, 2023, Phase 1 of the project marked its groundbreaking, covering 15 acres of land. This initial phase will accommodate four baseball/softball fields, complete with road access from State Highway 16. Upon completion, the park will feature eight baseball/softball fields, five grass flex fields for soccer, lacrosse, and football, as well as tennis and pickleball courts. Other amenities such as picnic facilities, play equipment, and trails will also be integrated into the park’s landscape.
History and Community Involvement
The City of Eagle has actively engaged the public in the development of the Eagle Regional Sports Park. On May 3, 2023, a neighborhood meeting was held at City Hall to provide residents with a platform to learn about the project and gather their valuable input. This inclusive approach ensures that the park will meet the needs and aspirations of the local community.
The park’s journey began on December 20, 2022, when the City purchased 84 acres of land from GWC adjacent to the initially acquired 10 acres. This acquisition facilitated the creation of the 94-acre Eagle Regional Sports Complex. To realize this vision, the City structured a purchase agreement and park impact fee reimbursement plan with GWC. It involved a $2.5 million cash payment and a reimbursement agreement of up to $7.87 million, which would be paid by builders as part of the Valnova development. Importantly, this reimbursement agreement does not rely on general funds or taxpayer dollars.
Notably, the park’s preliminary feasibility and engineering studies have been ongoing for the past two years. The proposed layout includes eight baseball fields, five grass flex fields, basketball and pickleball courts, as well as playgrounds, picnic facilities, and tournament amenities. A key objective of the regional park is to provide a permanent home for little league fields previously lost due to the development of Duck Alley.
Looking Ahead
The Eagle Regional Sports Park is steadily progressing toward its future completion. With Phase 1 underway and plans for further expansion, this park promises to be a dynamic space that enhances the sporting and recreational experiences for residents and visitors alike.
