Pocatello, Idaho: Center Street Underpass and Benton Street Bridge on Track to Reopen

Article
POCATELLO — Two of downtown Pocatello's biggest road projects are nearly done, the Idaho State Journal reported from a city news release.
Center Street underpass
Crews have installed pile shoring on the northeast and northwest sides of the underpass and are pouring concrete for foundation footings and lower walls. The project also adds new retaining walls, upgraded sidewalks and a pedestrian bridge on the west side. It's funded at $11,230,135, including $5.7 million in federal money secured by Rep. Mike Simpson, with the rest from the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council and a 7.34% city match. Traffic should be back by the end of the year.
> "We've torn out and rebuilt significant portions of a massive public structure that's over 80 years old that sits right next to and underneath a major rail line," Mayor Mark Dahlquist said.
West Benton Street bridge
The new Portneuf River bridge deck on West Benton Street is poured and the abutment formwork is off. Sidewalks, curbs, gutters, a new waterline and a retaining wall are still to come. The $2,268,437 project is paid for by the Leading Idaho Local Bridge Grant Program, and traffic is expected back in mid-November, weather permitting.
