Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERSI) and are provided to Classified employees who work at least half time (20 hours per week) or more in a regular position and to Certified employees with a .50 FTE or greater contract.

Job Qualifications

Acceptable Experience and Training:

  • Current, unrestricted Idaho LPN or RN License
  • Current CPR Certification Required
  • Six months of Home Health or Pediatric Private Duty Nursing preferred

Knowledge of

  • Essential nursing skills and procedures including physical and mental assessment and health care management;
  • Principles and practices of professional nursing, especially as related to school health;

Ability to

  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with other members of the patient’s multidisciplinary team;
  • Safely administer and document the administration of medication according to the student’s individual health plan and Boise School District policy;
  • Listen actively and ask questions to assess health care needs;
  • Exercise professional judgment in making nursing decisions;
  • Organize and maintain health services records;prepare clear and concise reports; maintain confidentiality;

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect health services to a medically fragile child under the direction of the school nurse for acute and chronic conditions to promote and protect the optimal health status of the child;
  • Ability to administer the following medical treatments, including but not limited to Mechanical Ventilation, Tracheostomy Care, Gastrostomy-tube feeding, etc.;
  • Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate the individual needs of a medically fragile child according to State and Federal regulations;
  • Manage chronic and ongoing health problems in cooperation with parents, physicians, school and community agencies;
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices, as well as professional nursing standards;

Clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to engage in verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person as well as in written communications;

Manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment, and to occasionally physically restrain a student to keep him/her from harming self or others when necessary;

  • Personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs.;
  • Job tasks require, with or without reasonable accommodation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and grasping;
  • Responsible for all Medicaid Billing Paperwork;
