Students may come to the Resource Room from their general education classrooms for this instruction and/or may receive adult instruction in their general ed classes.

Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERSI) and are provided to Classified employees who work at least half time (20 hours per week) or more in a regular position and to Certified employees with a .50 FTE or greater contract.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be able to travel to all elementary and secondary locations.
  • Graduation from high school, 48 college credit hours,
  • OR
  • Associates degree or higher (transcripts or copy of degree will be required upon hire),
  • OR
  • successful completion of the ETS Paraprofessional Praxis Exam (this exam may be taken after offer of employment has been extended, however, must be successfully completed prior to beginning employment).
  • Classroom or other instructional experience is preferred.

Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to assist students with physical and personal care needs including toileting, feeding, transferring, pushing, and to lift, move or reposition objects or students that may weigh up to 50 pounds.

Special Education Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate patience in working with students of varying abilities and disabilities;
  • Prepare and implement curriculum modifications;
  • Prepare and maintain records and documentation;
  • Work effectively with students of varied backgrounds and abilities;
  • Maintain student and district confidentiality;
  • Operate classroom instructional equipment, standard office equipment, and a personal computer using programs appropriate to assigned duties;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, staff members, and other district personnel;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
