Welcome to McCall, a mountain resort town on the southern shore of Payette Lake in Valley County. Sitting about 5,000 feet up in the Payette National Forest, McCall is one of Idaho’s true alpine treasures, a place where the lake, the pines, and a walkable downtown all meet.
At the heart of McCall is Payette Lake, a glacier-carved stretch of clear water known for swimming, boating, paddle boarding, fishing, and long summer days at North Beach. Discover something new every day on the water, then wander into town for coffee, dinner, and shops along the lake. Ponderosa State Park sits on a peninsula just outside town, with old-growth ponderosa pines, camping, and trails that turn into Nordic ski routes in winter.
McCall is a year-round outdoor town. In summer, hike and bike the surrounding forest, golf at McCall Municipal Golf Club, or take a boat out from Mile High Marina. In winter, Brundage Mountain and the Little Ski Hill are minutes away, the Manchester Ice & Event Centre downtown keeps the ice busy, and Winter Carnival fills the streets with ice sculptures, parades, and visitors from across the state.
The town has a strong sense of community for a resort destination. McCall-Donnelly schools serve families here, St. Luke’s McCall provides local hospital care, and the McCall smokejumper base is one of only a handful of permanent U.S. Forest Service smokejumper bases in the country. Nearby Cascade, Donnelly, and New Meadows make it easy to explore the rest of Long Valley and Highway 55, the Payette River Scenic Byway.
McCall captivates with lake days, mountain winters, and a welcoming small-town spirit. Explore the treasures of Idaho in McCall, where every season is an invitation to get outside.
