Jerome is the seat of Jerome County and the second-largest city in Idaho’s Magic Valley, about 10 miles northwest of Twin Falls along Interstate 84. The city was founded in 1907 as part of the North Side Twin Falls Canal Company irrigation project and became a municipal corporation on March 24, 1919. The official city site describes a compact downtown, lava-rock buildings, and an economy still rooted in farming and dairy, with growing service, manufacturing, and retail work. Jerome County Courthouse and several lava-rock homes and commercial buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Snake River Canyon, Shoshone Falls, and Perrine Bridge are a short drive to the south. The Jerome Chamber of Commerce markets the city as a gateway to Magic Valley day trips, including Sawtooth National Forest, Craters of the Moon, and Minidoka National Historic Site.
