Boise’s New $9.5M Whitney Pool Is Going Vertical on the Bench

Boise, Idaho

Boise’s new Whitney Pool has gone vertical on the Bench.

The City of Boise and the Boise School District are building a regional outdoor pool in the field behind Whitney Elementary School. City funding covers construction. The district is providing the land. The city puts the total cost at about $9.5 million.

An August 2026 update on the city’s project page says crews spent the summer on site utilities, a new sidewalk, and a loading and drop-off area. Masonry is up on two buildings, the shower/restroom building and the pool equipment/staff building, with mass ply timber roof panels and canopies going in. Pool excavation was set to start that month. The contractor is coordinating with Whitney Elementary so school drop-off still works through the school year.

The finished pool is designed as an eight-lane lap pool with a slide and a dedicated zero-entry kiddie pool, plus indoor restrooms and locker rooms. Construction started after an October 30, 2025 groundbreaking. The city still expects the work to wrap in 2026, with the pool opening for the summer 2027 swim season, same seasonal schedule as Boise’s other outdoor municipal pools.

Cushing Terrell is the design firm. The Russell Corporation is the contractor. For people moving to the Bench and southwest Boise, this is another city amenity catching up with the neighborhood: a family pool next to an elementary school, not a drive across town.
