Fruitland sits in Payette County along U.S. Highway 95, between the Snake and Payette rivers on Idaho’s western edge near Ontario, Oregon. Homesteaded in 1897 and named for the orchards that surrounded the town, it was incorporated as a village in 1948. The city’s slogan is The Big Apple of Idaho. Downtown Fruitland Community Park marks the site of the first public school, and Mesa Park anchors local sports with softball fields, tennis, and basketball. Crestview Park adds a splash pad and play area, while the Payette River Sports Complex is growing as an active-use park. Fruitland still ties its economy to agriculture even as service, light manufacturing, and health care have expanded.
